When you decide to have surgery with us, the operation itself is only one part of the process. If you're coming from outside Barcelona, you also need to think about where you'll stay and what support you want during the first days of recovery. In this article we cover the options we usually recommend, so you can organise it in good time and without surprises.
None of these services is compulsory or part of your surgical quote. They're additional options, managed independently, that many patients decide to add because they make the stay more comfortable.
Where to stay near the clinic
Our surgical centre, IM Clinic+Gournay, is in Sant Cugat del Vallès. If you're coming from another city or another country, being close to the centre makes a big difference in the first days: fewer journeys, less fatigue, more rest.
We have options for different preferences. If you'd rather have the classic hotel format, we have an agreement with a special rate for our patients. And if an aparthotel concept suits you better (your own kitchen, more independence, and just a few metres from the clinic), we also have a recommended alternative for that.
We recommend booking in advance, especially if your surgery falls in high season. Write to us and we'll go through the details of each option according to what best fits your situation.
Extra support during recovery
Beyond accommodation, there are several optional services some patients add to their stay and recovery. We list them here so you know they exist and how they work.
Transfers between airport, clinic and accommodation
If you'd rather not worry about getting around on the key days, we offer organised transfers between the airport, the surgical centre and your accommodation as an optional service. It's especially useful on the day of the operation and the day of discharge, when the last thing you feel like doing is arranging taxis or public transport.
Postoperative cooling mask (hilotherapy)
This is a controlled cooling system applied to the operated area in the first days. We work with a specialist provider who informs you directly of prices and days of use once you share your surgery date and contact details with us.
As a surgical team, our experience is that beyond the first 72 hours the clinical benefit of hilotherapy is limited. From that point it's more a matter of personal comfort: some patients like to keep using it because it feels soothing, and others simply find it uncomfortable. There's no right answer; it's your decision.
Facial lymphatic drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage can help reduce postoperative swelling and speed up the feeling of recovery in the first days. If you're interested, the specialist team will contact you roughly a week before your operation to schedule the sessions around your calendar.
It comes in two formats: individual sessions or a pack of several at a lower price per session. At your preoperative consultation we can tell you what usually works best for your type of procedure.
Home nursing visit
Before you leave the hospital, our nurse shows you in detail how to clean and care for your wounds, and we also arrange regular follow-up visits at the hospital to make sure everything is progressing as planned. In other words: in principle, you don't need anything extra for your recovery.
Even so, if you'd prefer additional support at home during the first days (for peace of mind, for comfort, or because you have no one with you), there's the option of booking a home nursing visit as a complementary service. It's your decision, not a clinical need.
Our recommendation
You don't need to decide any of this before your surgery. It's information to keep in mind so you can plan with margin, especially if you're coming from abroad. When your preoperative stage arrives, we'll go through what you need together and put you in touch with the right people.
If you have questions about accommodation or any of these services, write to us. We're here so you arrive at your surgery with a clear head, not with logistics still pending.
